Modest Ambition is a shop full of beautiful crochet that always makes me stop.
When I see someone else doing something I love to do in a new or different way, I have to take notice and compliment. So of course when I found Modest Ambition I marked it a favorite shop and I visit now and again just to take in the beauty of it all.
Take a moment to read this interview, then go visit Anne's shop. It's a lovely place to spend time.
Tell us a little about yourself
My name is Anne Lawrence, ModestAmbition is my shop and I live in Dallas, TX
What inspires you to do your craft/artistry?
I like to stay busy and solve problems. Inventing new crocheted items keeps my brain and my hands busy. I also love to work with color and texture and to try to create new structures. I like challenges.
I like to create pieces that evoke a mood. I tend towards either the overly romantic and historical or towards the super bright and happy.
How do you promote your items/shop?
I promote mainly through the teams I belong to mostly and on Etsy. I'm most active with my local team EtsyDallas. I love the message board and monthly challenges on EtsyFAST. I'm also a member of EtsyHookers and EtsyTexasCrafters.
What is one piece of advice you'd give to new artists?
Try lots of different ideas, be original, and really try to perfect your technique. Be persistent, but flexible if something isn't working.
How do you see yourself evolving in the next 5-10 years?
I'd like to learn more skills and try more fibers. I'd like to learn how to weave eventually.
What are some of your favorite things?
I love Tex Mex food, my very furry dog, science fiction, my adorable niece, and my very supportive husband.
What is your favorite quote?
I'm totally stumped on this question! How about favorite artists at this moment? Pipilotti Rist, Ann Hamilton, Laurie Anderson
