Learn to Crochet - The Crochet Pike Stitch

A few weeks ago I did a video on the woven stitch in crochet which gave a lovely texture to your piece. This lesson is on how to do the Pike Stitch in crochet which is very similar to the woven stitch but using the Extended Single Crochet stitch. Both stitches can be used to create pieces that offer full coverage and beautiful texture.

If you enjoy this video, please come by my YouTube channel and subscribe. There are many more videos planned for the year I'd hate for you to miss out.

Let me know if you have a stitch that you'd like to see demonstrated and I'll see what I can do.

Consider yourself tagged, you can do a video response or a blog response, but let me know by leaving me a comment so I can go by your channel or blog and take a look. Have a fantastic day!

Learn to Crochet - Tunisian Purl Stitch (TPS)

Last week we started on the Tunisian stitches with the Tunisian Simple Stitch. This week we're going to continue along the Tunisian line and show you how to do the Tunisian Purl Stitch. The Tunisian Purl Stitch builds upon the Tunisian Simple Stitch and creates a fabric that looks a lot like the purl side of a knitted garment. This is one of the stitches used in both my newly released patterns, The Tiny Cables Wristwarmers use this stitch to create the ribbing effect of the cuff as well as the Basketweave Wristwarmers.  Both patterns allow you to practice the stitch in an easy setting.

Basketweave Wristwarmers
I hope this video helps you better understand the directions for the Tunisian Crochet Purl Stitch and gets you on the way to creating beautiful "fusion" pieces. This video can be found at my YouTube channel along with all the other videos I've showcased here on the blog. I'd love to hear your feedback. Do you have a stitch you're currently struggling with or would like to learn? Leave me a comment, maybe I can get a video done to help.

Learn To Crochet - Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS)

The art of Tunisian Crochet (which is sometimes refered to as Afghan Crochet) is a type of fusion between knitting and crocheting. The hook used to work Tunisian Crochet is a long hook that almost looks like a knitting needle except for the hook at the end.

In traditional crochet only one stitch is active at a time while in Tunisian Crochet many stitches are active just as in knitting. Although there are many types of tunisian crochet stitches, this video is of the basic Tumisian Simple Stitch with is the starting point in learning to work with Tunisian Crochet. This is one of the stitches used in the Tunisian Crochet Ribbed Cowl pattern found on this blog.

I hope this video helps you better understand the directions for the Tunisian Crochet Simple Stitch and gets you on the way to creating beautiful "fusion" pieces. This video can be found at my YouTube channel along with all the other videos I've showcased here on the blog. I'd love to hear your feedback. Do you have a stitch you're currently struggling with or would like to learn? Leave me a comment, maybe I can get a video done to help.

Learn to Crochet - The Double Foundation Chain

The double foundation chain (also called the "double base chain" or "Japanese Foundation Row") is anotehr way to begin a crochet project. One of the great benefits of the double foundation chain is that is gives your crocheted piece greater elasticity than a straight chain. Because of that elasticity this is a great way to start a hat that is being worked from the brim up or for a sleeve.

Once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to quickly decide if you'd like to use a chain or a double foundation chain in your project. You'll also know how to do it when you encounter a pattern that asks for this type of foundation row.

I'd love to hear your feedback. Do you have a stitch you're currently struggling with or would like to learn? Let me know, maybe I can get a video done to help. This year there'll be advanced stitches, complete projects and more coming from my YouTube Channel so make sure to subscribe to get the very latest on what's happening!

Learn to Crochet - The Slip Stitch

The "Slip Stitch" (sl st or ss) is used mostly as a connecting stitch or to get from point a to point b without raising rows. However, there are patterns that use the slip stitch as a stitch to create the material. Whatever the use, it's good to know how to slip stitch when you crochet.

Learn to Crochet - The Single Crochet

The single crochet is the basic crochet stitch and can be used to create all sorts of beautiful items in crochet. If you didn't learn any other stitch in crochet, you'd still have a wealth of "training" to make whatever you'd like in crochet by learning the single crochet.

Yarn Obsession is Broadcasting on YouTube!

Ever since I opened my Etsy Shop I've wanted to work in video information. I can always write out instructions, but I'm a visual learner and wanted to help my fellow "visuals" with video. The time, place etc. were never right so I put it off for a few years. Recently I've realized that unless I make the time or place and all the other elements right, things aren't going to fall into place.

So, I pulled together my first video last week and I plan on continuing to put videos together as the inspiration comes to me. I love to play with yarn! Passing that along is worthy of the effort. Besides, everyone goes to YouTube to find out "how" to do anything these days, so why not be found?!

So without further excuses here is the "Sedruola Maruska's Yarn Obsession" YouTube Channel! Bookmark it, share it and use it. I plan on adding as much as possible whenever possible!

My first video is a quick one on the basic tools for crochet!

Oh my, this is too much fun!!
