Olivia's Butterfly - Pattern Review

Sometime in December I discovered the "Olivia's Butterfly" pattern on Ravelry. I think it was around the time I decided I wanted to give my "designing" brain a break and work on some ready-written patterns instead.

When I saw this ubber-cute pattern I decided it looked easy enough and fun enough to do, plus I needed a new hat for my baby girl. Olivia's Butterfly was perfect! You can find Valerie's pattern on her blog Vallieskids. Not only did I enjoy making this hat, it was so easy to follow her directions. The pattern was well written and a breeze to do.

I sat down to make one, but ended up making 4 - 5 hats for various people and busting my stash to a nice degree. Will I make more? Yes!!! I have a few more kids and ladies in my life who would love this hat. . . I also made one for myself, which is not something I do often.

Cloche

Sometime last year I saw something that stuck with me until I finished this hat. What I saw was this really stylish looking young woman wearing jeans, a nice t-shirt and a cloche hat. The hat was a totally different color than her outfit, but it was a neutral color that could have been worn with anything and look wonderful. The reason it stood out was because, I'm all about not always having to do my hair. As much as I like it when it's done, I find it tedious to do it everyday. So, I decided to make myself a cloche that would work as an alternative to doing my hair this Spring.

Here it is! My amazing crochet cloche with it's beautiful accent flower! I wear this with jeans, but I know it can be worn with a dress or a more fancy outfit. For me, I just love the look of it without the fuss!

Pattern: My own
Material: Cranberry acrylic yarn, 1-skein
Time: 4-6 hours

This was a stash-busting project for me! I think if I can do more projects like this, I'll be through my stash in record time. . . especially since most yarnies, like me, never really get through the stash!!!

Child's Hat & Scarf

I often feel bad that all my talent goes to making items to sell and not to my baby boy. I also hate that I can never think of something quick and dirty to make for him when I do want to make him something. This time, I got inspired. I made him a scarf and hat set that emulates the chunky knit scarf I make for adults and added a hat to make it complete.

I completed the set before we went to North Dakota for the holidays, and it sure came in handy in the -30 wind chill weather. Of course, my boy didn't really enjoy being outside in such cold weather, so we really didn't spend time outside when it was that cold, but even when it warmed up to 5 degrees the set worked.

I'm wondering if I should make this a part of my offerings on Etsy? Well whatever happens, at least my son is warm for now.

Quick project

A few weeks ago my neice modeled one of my hats so I could post the photos to my Etsy shop. That same day she made a request for a hat of her own in Black and white. I looked in my stash, found some yarn and started working on it first thing Monday morining on the train. It took exactly three days of train crochet to complete the project that was received enthusiastically by my lovely neice.
It's so nice to be able to make someone's day by creating exactly what they asked for!
